Kuldeep Gharatya is Head of Technical Strategy, Systems Performance & Innovation at London Underground.
Assuming this role in 2007, he leads the Systems Group comprising of Systems Engineering, Project Engineering, Telecommunication, Command & Control Systems, System Performance Engineering and more recently the TfL Technology Innovation initiative. Kuldeep is accountable for the delivery of the London Underground Engineering Strategy and is an advocate for innovation. His current focus is to establish a framework for R&D within TfL – Rail & Underground.
He joined London Underground in 1997, working with Train Systems Engineering. This work coupled with experiences in other LU departments led him to subsequently promote a Systems Engineering approach.
Kuldeep has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters degree in Systems Engineering. He is a Chartered Engineer and an active member of INCOSE, including the UK Chapter Rail Interest Group. As a thought leader in the implementation of SE in transport, Kuldeep was the first UK.. keynote speaker at the INCOSE International Symposium in 2007 and certainly the first from a rail background. Kuldeep has championed pragmatic and cost effective use of Systems Engineering as a core part of the project delivery lifecycle within LU, its contractors and industry partners.
